Mission Statement:
To inspire every generation to create a positive impact on the future of our community, promote promise, and show appreciation by bringing together voices for the common good, developing leaders, and taking an active role.
The Sioux City Growth Organization (SCGO) was formed in 2002 to encourage young professionals to become active members of the Siouxland community. We encourage progressive and innovative ideas, and bring together voices from all generations to create a positive impact on the future of our community. Our goal is to attract and retain young professionals in the area, by providing insight on what Sioux City has to offer and how they can get involved in shaping its future.
We offer committee and volunteer opportunities, networking and after hours educational events, community-based beautification and work to develop projects such as Sculpt Siouxland and Freeze Fest. Our members even get involved with local government and board positions. We hope you find this group as exciting and beneficial to the community as we do!
Sioux City Growth Organization Goals 2011
1. Membership Involvement: Following the success of last years membership drive our focus is shifting toward Membership connection. Besides providing diverse topics and events that appeal to current and new members we want to enhance the personal connections between members. We hope to achieve this by shifting the format of the General Meetings away from the strict agenda format to group problem solving and networking while covering the most relevant issues and furthering the start of a New Member Connection System in coordination with the Connect Committee.
2. Leadership & Development: As a progressive organization, it is our intent to provide our members with access to tools that will help them emerge as leaders in our community. SCGO continues to encourage our members to serve on community boards and volunteer with other organizations. We will continue to provide our members with Lunch-n-Learn’s about our community ,webinars to further professional development and will promote and attend conferences at a statewide level.
3. Community Voice: SCGO’s community voice is continually growing stronger. We are gaining visibility through our events and look to maintain our role as a sounding board for groups seeking a young professional perspective. We are also looking to partner with other organizations to further economic development in the Siouxland community. We are shaping a Sioux City YPday, that will benefit all young professionals in the area. It is our hope that if you don’t know SCGO you will soon.
