Downtown Living:
What would you need to live downtown? A few ideas have been a bakery, specialty market and deli or a convenience store – any more ideas or have you thought about starting any of these businesses downtown?

Flavors of Northwest Iowa:
Two words: LOCAL FOOD! Flavors is a burgeoning regional network for local foods. We have all sorts of ideas for events, promotion, and education that can help build and sustain local and regional food networks. I’m interested in talking about a variety of these ideas, plus new ones like a local food store or new visions for what we could do for locally grown food in Sioux City.
Responses:
Local food is so much healthier and keeps the money right here to share with the community
Contact Ron from One Stop Meat Shop – he buys a lot of local meats, eggs and produce

Bar and Grill with Microbrewery:
Sioux City is becoming bogged down with franchised restaurants. I want to bring a new type of dining experience that has a trendy but casual atmosphere. Serving great food and in-house brewed drinks will offer a unique dining experience. A place where Sioux City business people will be able to take their clients or their family.
Responses:
Sue Bee Honey Ale – oh how I miss you!
All Sioux City ‘flavors’ of beer (ie: twing bing, honey, sasparilla, etc.)
“Showup” successful places inOmaha ( upstream )
Key is pricing competitive
Make sure you have a clear idea of who you are marketing to – 4th St. Brew Pub never knew who they were targeting.

Sioux City Water Park:
I have visited other towns like Sioux City and smaller hat have great water parks and they are a lot of fun. I was in Cedar Falls this summer and their water park was so busy, you had to wait in line to get in. I think a lot of people from Sioux City and towns around Sioux City would come here and stay here is we had a water park.
Responses:
Old stockyards location – great visibility and access
Looking at water features for Cone Park I hear!
Good idea – half of US goes through I29 during the summer (out to the Black Hills) market to them.
Smaller towns have supported them
Combine with the Marina Inn
I go to Storm Lake, Omaha and Okoboji every year for my kids’ birthdays because that’s what they want to do! Would Love the ability to stay local!
Let’s go for it!
All In! Great Idea!
Much Needed.

Pearl Organics Café:
The idea would be to open a natural foods (organic if possible) café in the downtown area, either on 4th Street or preferably the blooming Pearl Street. The menu would be simple, including healthy hand-made breads for sandwiches, loaded garden salads, gourmet or ‘truffle’ fries, and fresh fruit juices or teas. In order to extend hours in the day, the café could also offer hand-made icecream during the night shift. This would be ideal for either the theatre area on 4th, or near the developing Pearl Street where night pedestrian traffic will be around the theatre, Cone Park, pub, wine bar, etc. If located near Pearl, it would also be in close range to the farmers market, which could be a main supplier for the fresh food menu. The lower downtown area is definitely in need of healthy, quick food for business people, citizens passing through and visitors alike!

Great – Partner with the other businesses in town with the same idea. Aveda

Dinner Mystery Theatre Train:
We already have the track, we just need passenger cars to start something like the Fremont Dinner Train. A place that offers passenger train rides and also holds special events like mystery theatre dinners, costume parties, or just elegant dinner in a unique venue.
Responses:
Sounds like a total blast
Cool idea
Coordinate with all the Train activities
Maybe (do this idea) without the train at the Pierce Mansion
Check with the Siouxland Historical Railroad Association
FUN
Keep it affordable

Farmer’s Market Facility:
Create a permanent farmers market facility that caters to vendors and customers of the Sioux City Farmer’s Market

Downtown Global Market Non-Profit:
A contemporary, sleek, clean, indoor, public market with food stalls dedicated to everything from ethnic foods to locally sourced foods would transform Downtown Sioux City. Using KC’s City Market or Minneapolis’ Midtown Global Market as models you’d look for a range of tenants from an Italian grocer to a Vietnamese noodle shop to a Mexican bakery to an organic food vendor – in a symbiotic maze of sights and smells. This market would capitalize on Siouxland’s rich diversity as well as its large agricultural footprint and marry them in one central, showpiece destination.

Warrior Hotel / Badgerow building

Downtown Ice Skating Rink:
This is a proposal for an outdoor ice skating rink that would have hot cocoa and rental ice skates. Ideas for location would be the Anderson Dance Pavilion or Tyson Event Center, maybe the Summer Farmers Market location. This would be a great way to attract families and utilize the downtown area for outdoor winter activities.

Pavilion is a great idea but maybe not big enough
